Decaf, Victrola
I was staying downtown Seattle a couple weeks ago with my mom. Our room was about 3 blocks from Victrola Coffee Roasters and decided to go get a latte. While we were waiting in line, I saw their Deco Decaf Blend of coffee beans and decided to purchase them. There was no description of the “flavor” of the beans, but I decided to trust Victrola and I had been wanting to get some decaf beans, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity. As we left the cafe, I was excited to open the bag and smell the amazing aroma of a sweet, nutty blend of amazingness, as this is what usually happens when you open a new and freshly roasted bag of coffee beans. Instead, I smelled dirt. and tobacco. and grass. Some might be excited about this. I was not. But, instead of being upset, I decided it was my way of supporting a good coffee company.
A day or two later I was craving some coffee, but it was about 7 pm. It was time to try the decaf dirt beans. I started the process of making coffee with my pour over and noticed another strange thing. When dumping the just-grounded beans into the rinsed coffee filter, I noticed they were the grounds were…staticky? Anyways, I finished the process, added a little fat free half and half, and then cautiously took my first sip.
It was… Amazing. It is a great late night coffee treat and is a perfect match for an after dinner dessert. I was skeptical, but found that it’s earthy tones really deliver a great cup of late night coffee. Go Victrola!
